12 Preludes for Piano was one of my first albums of preludes. I was around 25 years old, just got back to Los Angeles after serving a few years in the Marine Corps. What a great decision it was to be done with the corps because that enlistment was depressing me. I couldn’t stand the day to day responsibilities of playing along with this game that I had agreed to.

The urge to create music consumed me. In my Los Angeles home, I took all of my music courses online. At first, I felt as though being an online student wasn’t good enough. Maybe, I should move onto campus in order to be respected as a person with a bachelor’s degree in music. I doubted myself heavily. I worked as a bus driver on a daily basis, as a result I barely had time to practice music theory after I got all of my work done.

Just about every day between my last year as a Marine and the time I spent back home in Los Angeles, I was drinking. Not just a little bit, not just a casual sip. I was getting full, sadly, I was getting wasted. Usually, I started my evening with a bottle of wine and if that didn’t get me tipsy then I would follow it with some vodka. This would help me to forget. What did I need to forget?? Whatever it was that was bothering me.
