Piano concerto number 1

“I am not satisfied with the composition or the sound design of this work.  But, the deadline has arrived and I must show my work.”

Composer Harold D. Shores III is developing his identity as a composer.  Symphony 5 is another figure of art for the sake of art in the digital display case that is Harold’s repertoire.  With the goal of becoming one of the prominent masters of orchestral music in world history, Composer Harold D. Shores III plans to compose one major serious work per month for the decade of our new millennial 20s.

It is a lofty goal.  It will challenge Harold’s capacity to remain composed and continue working with every note.  However, this is exactly the  achievement that he aims to attain.

It feels like I have lost so much. The little things that I did have, I lost them. Multiple times.  In the midst of my irresponsible poverty and lack of financial knowledge I was lucky enough to acquire my first SUV. I worked so many hours at the wheel, driving from city to city delivering packages to earn a minimal monthly wage. It was destroyed.  A total loss. I was earning about $1800 per month and my insurance was expired.

Before getting this vehicle, I was convinced that my hope was lost.  My first car, the first one that I was able to finance on my own, suffered catastrophic engine failure and burned out on the freeway.  This was approximately $500 before the vehicle was paid off to my ownership.  I was broken and nearly hopeless.  Shores Piano Concerto Number 1 is the symbol of my weaning hope.

I worked security at another music event today. Seeing these music artists and celebrities up close, and how people respond to them, makes me so jealous.  I envy them so deeply because I know that people will never value me the way that they value these rap artists.  I think it’s shameful but I accept the reality.

I started composing Piano Concerto 1 in 2019. Three fucking years ago.  I’m ashamed of that.  It took me this long to finish and publish this work.  Guess what’s worse.  I’m still not satisfied with it.  There are lines that I would like to revise.  The mixing and the sound design are so flawed.  But, today, clouded in a thick mist of envy for the well known and rich rappers around me, I decided that this shit is gonna be heard.  Now. So, fuck it.  I’m publishing this piano, knowing that few people will be interested.  Fuck it.
